Milbemax worming tablets

Milbemax is made up of milbemycin. It kills roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms and even has an unlicensed use against sarcoptic mange, demodectic mange and Cheyletiella (a form of mite called 'walking dandruff').

The tablets are red and small and easy to give to cats. They are pink for kittens and white for dogs. The dose is:

Dogs - 1/2mg/kg orally given every 4 months. Puppies need dosing monthly from 8 weeks for 3 months.

Cats - 2mg/kg orally given every 4 months. Kittens need dosing monthly from 9 weeks for 3 months.

Give with food or immediately after feeding.

If you travel abroad with your pet to a heartworm area, begin dosing within one month of arrival and give the last dose after the dog has left the region.

Adverse effects and contraindications

Pale gums have been seen in some dogs. If your Rough Collie or Shetland Sheepdog has a large overdose (25 times the normal monthly dose), fever, stumbling and falling over have been seen in these breeds that have overdosed on Milbemax tablets.
