Drontal Worming tablets

Drontal tablets are one of the best broad spectrum wormers to use in your pets. They are made up of Praziquantel, Pyrantel embonate and Febantel. The combination of these active substances kills:

wAscarids such as Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina which are the roundworms.

wHookworms such as Uncinaria stenocephala and Ancylostoma caninum.

wWhipworms such as Trichuris vulpis.

wTapeworms such as Echinococcus species, Taenia species and Dipylidium species.

The dose rate is 1 tablet per 10kg bodyweight in dogs. They can be given directly to your pet or disguised in food. For dogs, wrap them in cheese or ham but for cats, it is advisable that you give it directly into their mouths as they are bitter and your cat is likely to smell them in the food. Your pet does not need to be starved before or after treatment. Drontal plus tablets are flavoured and very easy to dose to dogs directly.

For the control of Toxocara, nursing bitches should be dosed 2 weeks after giving birth and every two weeks until weaned.

Puppies should be treated at 2 weeks of age and every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age.

Thereafter, treatment is every 3 months. It is advisable to treat the bitch at the same time as the puppies. In the event of a heavy roundworm infection, a repeat dose should be given after 14 days.

Warnings

Do not exceed recommended dose when treating pregnant bitches.

Do not use simultaneously with piperazine compounds.

Tapeworm infection will almost certainly re-occur unless control of intermediate hosts such as fleas is undertaken.

Part used tablets should be discarded.

Do not use after expiry date.

All dogs entering the UK from a European country under the PETS scheme need to be treated with a praziquantel product (such as Drontal) as Echinococcus multilocularis does not occur in the UK but does occur in certain European countries.

wSome pets may vomit after dosing and may need a different wormer for their next treatment.
