Advocate Spot on

Advocate Spot-on is an excellent anti-parasitic treatment for a number of parasites. It can only be purchased from vets. It will kill:

wFleas

wFlea larvae

wEarmites

wSarcoptic mange

wDemodex

wHookworm

wWhipworm

wRoundworm

wHeartworm

They come in pipettes that depend on the weight of your pet. Do not overdose by using dog Advocate on your cat. Use it monthly. To open the pipette, remove the cap, reverse it and use it to twist and remove the seal from the pipette.

Treatment is applied to the skin by parting the fur, at the base of the neck. This is where you pet cannot lick itself. If your pets are likely to groom each other, apply in the evening and keep them apart for the night. Apply evenly in 3 or 4 spots over your dog's back if it is over 25kgs or 55lbs.

Do not use in puppies under 7 weeks of age or less than 1kg.

Undesirable effects

wTemporary itchiness in dogs where it has been applied

wVomiting

wIf your pet licks the spot of application, it may salivate and show neurological signs of tremors. These should be temporary, but if persist, contact your vet.

wDogs should not be allowed to swim for 4 days after treatment as Advocate is highly toxic to aquatic organisms.

wBe careful particularly in Collies, Old English Sheepdogs and Shelties and these related breeds that they do not ingest any Advocate. Also make sure in these breeds that you use the correct dose.

wDo not stroke the area of application for 12 hours and wash hands immediately after use with soap and water.

Advocate is highly effective in killing the live fleas, but pre-existing pupae in the environment may continue to emerge in your home so treat the home. I advise Acclaim Household spray.
